The Grant Middle School and Neighborhood Center, Science Classroom Addition, Gymnasium Acoustic and Kitchen Improvement project for Albuquerque Public Schools presented an opportunity to create new facilities to replace the dark and outdated existing science classrooms. The new Science Classroom Addition has abundant day-light, comprehensive lab utility flexibility with in-floor utility chases, new concept designed student lab tables, a teaching wall with sliding marker boards that conceal storage, abundant lab equipment storage casework, computer projection and screen and lighting control systems. The facility is designed for energy efficiency with high R-Value walls and ceilings, thoughtfully placed skylights and operable windows. Many aspects of construction are exposed to view for the science students. The Science Classroom Addition is targeted for Silver or Gold LEED Certification.
